Abandon all hope ye who play this game
Inferna LLC is my first Capstone project at Champlain College’s game studio. It’s an asymmetrical multiplayer game where a team of three players—all IRS agents—pillage and destroy their way through a hellish office dungeon crawl, all while a fourth player takes on the role of the Overseer in a top-down RTS, using traps and a workforce of infernal employees to shut them down.
Hell of a challenge
I am fortunate to be the Lead Narrative Artist on this team from the start, which presented an interesting challenge: Inferna was never intended to be a narrative-focused game. I choose to focus on environmental storytelling as the primary means of conveying narrative, and collaborate closely with the art team to create diegetic UI and memorable in-game story landmarks.
Hear me! See me!
Even though the written word isn’t the primary narrative vehicle, Satan’s workforce still has plenty of personality. I created a massive spreadsheet with one hundred unique names, titles, and job positions, then worked with our programmers to ensure each employee spawns with a distinct identity. You can play Inferna a hundred times and never see the same Eyebert twice.
